Jambi

Jambi is the starting point for excursions to the archealogical site of Muara Jambi. The large temple complex is the most important Hindu-Buddhist site in Sumatra. For centuries the site lay abandoned and overgrown in the jungle before being rediscovered in 1920.

Malay 38%, Javanese 28%, Kerinci 10%, Minangkabay 5%, Banjanese 3%, Sudanese 2.5% and others 10%.

Religion.

Muslim 98.5%, Christian 1.2%, Buddhist .36%, Hindu .1%.

Language

Main language is Jambi Malay with Indonesian also spoken in larger communities.
